    Nature of Work

    This is a full-time position with Our Community’s Children -- a public/private partnership between the City of Grand Rapids, Grand Rapids Public Schools and community partners – will provide opportunities to learn about civic engagement, leadership, youth development, college access and youth employment strategies. The Retention Specialist will contribute to the design, implementation, and management of programs with the goal of improving the well-being of young people and their families particularly around college degree attainment. This position will not have any supervisory responsibilities. Work assignments will be conducted in office settings as well as locations within the community. The primary location will be at OCC’s T2C Studio located on the 3rd floor of the downtown Grand Rapids Public Library.


    Minimum Training and Experience
    Associate degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration or a related field. 
    --AND--
    At least three (3) years of related work experience
    --OR--
    Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
    Responds to phone calls and emails
    Compiles and analyzes data, prepares reports
    Assists in the planning and preparation of formal reports
    Manages and tracks purchases and reimbursements related to department budgets and funds
    Processes incoming checks and invoices for payments
    Assists in developing and preparing instruction and informational guides for public and internal use
    Prepares correspondence relating to assigned area of activity
    Attends meetings of City officials and community organizations for the purpose of gathering information
    Conducts various research projects or special assignments
    Facilitates the T2C Studio Scholars for Retention Program
    Curates college visits  
    Manages a caseload of college students to ensure they 
    Assists in the facilitation of the Challenges Scholars Program at Union High School
    Assists in the planning and execution of OCC's T2C Studio events
    Assists with OCC's T2C Studio walk-ins
    Meets with students and parents to discuss college readiness and degree attainment
    Reports directly to the OCC Executive Director
    Performs related work as required

    This is a grant-funded position with a benefits package.
