Position Overview
Apply your knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide local and statewide leadership and educational programming expertise in development and delivery of educational initiatives that support Michigan communities and local and tribal government through training for newly elected officials, best practices in local financial management, strategic planning, and good governance practices for appointed and elected boards.
Working with the Good Governance team, you will identify, design, implement and evaluate research-based educational programs relevant to local appointed and elected officials, municipal finance, and best practices in local government management. Examples include (but are not limited to): training for newly elected officials, best practices in local financial management, strategic planning, and good governance practices for appointed and elected boards.
You will implement programs that support local elected and appointed officials in the stewardship of human and financial resources and support thriving communities. Your efforts will leave participants with a deeper understanding of their civic responsibilities and roles within their own communities, increased confidence to make decisions, and information to better manage community resources, knowledge of how to implement best practices, and an understanding of the role of local government in supporting thriving communities.
Although negotiable, there will be space available for this position to work from the Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, or Manistee County MSU Extension office.
This position may be eligible to utilize a flexible work environment, however, there is an expectation to work from a MSU Extension county office. The needs, responsibilities, and opportunities of an individual’s position and office location drive the ability and amount of work-location flexibility.
Minimum Qualifications (see full description for complete list of requirements)- Master’s degree related to Public Policy/Affairs, Urban and Regional Planning, Community Development, Public Administration, or related.
