• APACC Celebrates 25 Years at Annual Gala Featuring Ambassador Chris Lu and Honoring Champions of Business, Service, and Community Impact

Detroit, MI – April 14, 2025 – The Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce (APACC) will mark 25 years of cross-cultural business leadership and economic advancement at its Annual Gala on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the MGM Grand Detroit. This signature celebration will feature a keynote address by Ambassador Chris Lu and the presentation of three awards recognizing excellence in leadership, corporate collaboration, and community impact.

Ambassador Chris Lu, one of the highest-ranking Asian Americans in U.S. government history, most recently served as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations for Management and Reform. He previously served as White House Cabinet Secretary during the Great Recession, coordinating policy and communication among federal agencies during a time of extraordinary national challenge. A former U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor and senior White House official, Ambassador Lu is widely recognized for his commitment to public service, effective governance, and inclusive leadership.

His keynote will anchor an evening themed “Reflect, Celebrate, Advance,” honoring APACC’s legacy while charting its continued impact.

This year’s awardees highlight the many ways leadership, innovation, and advocacy shape stronger communities:

    APACC Pillar of Leadership Award
Leonie Nyuk Lien Teichman, Vice President of Operations, APACC
Honoring individuals whose long-standing service, leadership, and integrity have strengthened the foundation of APACC and supported its growth across communities.

    APACC Chairman’s Award
    Chrysan Industries
Honoring corporations that demonstrate exceptional collaboration between U.S.-based companies and those with roots in Asian heritage, driving economic impact, innovation, and long-term business partnerships.

    APACC Community Impact Award
Christopher Sim, Supplier Development Program Manager, Stellantis
Honoring individuals or organizations making significant contributions to economic empowerment through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and leadership that uplift small businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals across communities.

“We are honored to have Ambassador Chris Lu join us,” said Grace Lee, CEO/President of Ashford Connex and Chairman Emeritus of APACC. “His leadership through the Great Recession—and his deep understanding of economic policy and experience in transformation and reform—will provide timely perspective as we reflect on APACC’s progress and explore what’s next for our business community.”
“This year’s honorees remind us that leadership takes many forms—quiet dedication, bold collaboration, and relentless advocacy,” added Charley Meng, Associate General Counsel at Inteva Products, LLC and Chairman of the Board of APACC. “Each one has strengthened APACC’s foundation and our shared future.”

The Gala will feature a cocktail reception, seated dinner, cultural performances, and networking opportunities with corporate executives, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.
